Privacy Policy

LiftOff is a game and app launcher for Windows. This policy explains what data LiftOff touches and where it goes.
The short version
LiftOff doesn't have a server. There is no LiftOff account, no analytics, and no crash reporting. Everything LiftOff stores lives on your own device. When LiftOff talks to a third-party service — Steam, Xbox, Spotify, SteamGridDB, or GitHub — it's your device talking to that service directly, using your own credentials, not routed through us.
What LiftOff stores locally
LiftOff keeps its settings and library data in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\LiftOff\ on your PC:
- Your settings (theme, accent, scan preferences, and similar) —
settings.json - Your pinned apps and recently launched items —
pins.json,recents.json - Cached cover art and icons, so LiftOff doesn't re-download them —
art_cache.json,icon_cache.json, and a localart/folder - Diagnostic logs used only for troubleshooting on your own device — in a
logs/folder
None of this leaves your device. Uninstalling LiftOff, or deleting this folder, removes it.
Third-party accounts you connect
If you choose to connect an account, LiftOff stores the resulting sign-in token in Windows Credential Manager — the same secure storage Windows uses for other apps' saved logins — not in a LiftOff file, and not on a server we run.
- Steam — LiftOff reads your local Steam library files directly to show what you own and installed. If you sign in for owned-game import, that sign-in happens through Steam's own flow.
- Xbox / Microsoft account — used to show your Xbox and Game Pass library. Sign-in happens through Microsoft's own OAuth flow; LiftOff never sees your password.
- Spotify — connecting Spotify requires you to supply your own Spotify developer Client ID. Playback tokens are used only to control playback and are never written to logs or shared.
Disconnecting an account in Settings removes its saved token.
Third-party services LiftOff calls
- SteamGridDB — used to fetch cover art. If you provide your own API key, art requests go from your device to SteamGridDB directly.
- GitHub — LiftOff checks GitHub's public release list to see if an update is available. This is an anonymous, unauthenticated request; it doesn't send anything identifying you.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing what it does with a request it receives.
What LiftOff does not do
- LiftOff does not collect analytics, telemetry, or crash reports.
- LiftOff does not have user accounts of its own.
- LiftOff does not sell or share data, because it doesn't collect any to sell or share.
- LiftOff is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If what LiftOff stores or connects to changes, this page will be updated, and the "Last updated" date above will change.
